Choosing a suitable car seat for your baby…
Are you a new parent? Needing a car seat for your new arrival? Or are you in the stages of needing to change over to the next stage up car seat? Hopefully below will give you some indication of the information you need to know to be able to make the right purchase when buying your car seat.
Your child will need to be in a car seat from birth – 12 years old (0-36kg) so it’s important to get the right one to match your needs. There are many different types of car seats now, which does make it more difficult to know which one to choose. They have now divided it into different groups, depending on age and weight of your child.
What do the car seat groups mean?
Group 0+ is the first group – this is known as the infant carrier and will be needed to take your baby home from hospital when they first arrive into the world! This will last for a minimum of the first 12 months and will be the most convenient car seat. Group 0+ car seats include: Maxi-Cosi Tinca, Maxi-Cosi Pebble Pro and the Maxi-Cosi Coral.
The next stage up is Group 1 and this is your next stage up car seat. This group is suitable from 9 months to 4 years, if possible we would always suggest to rear face your child for as long as possible, it has been proven it’s 5 times safer to rear face your child in a car seat up to 4 years old. Group 1 car seats include: Cybex Sirona Z iSize, Cybex PALLAS and the Cybex PALLAS G iSize.
And the last stage is Group 2/3 which can be known as high back boosters. These car seats are suitable from 3.5 years to 12 years old. And will only be forward facing, all the groups will feature both isofix and seat belted seats. Therefore will be able to fix into any car. Group 2/3 car seats include: Cosatto Zoomi, Cosatto All in All i-Rotate and the Cosatto Sumo Isofit Car Seat.
