Double & Twin
So you need a pram to transport 2 children? There are lots of questions you need to ask yourself before selecting the appropriate pram that would be best for you.
Tandem or side-by-side?
A tandem pram is when you have two seats, one in front of the other. This is usually a good option for people with narrow doorways. The footprint of the stroller is the same as a single, and often the pram can be converted back to a single when you only have one child. Side-by-side prams mean you can easily see both children, and they can interact with each other. They are much wider than tandem prams.
How old will my children be?
Obviously if you are having twins that that answer is easy. You need a pram designed for 2 x newborns. Both babies will need a carry cot or a seat unit that is suitable from newborn.
Do I need a double or a twin?
That depends on your age gap. If you have a toddler and newborn then the UPPAbaby Vista, Cosatto Wow XL or the Silver Cross Wave are a complete ‘out of the box, all in one solution’ – they are all suitable for a newborn and a toddler, the pram and carry cot plus adaptors and raincovers are included in the price.
Does your pram need to be able to take 2 x car seats – ask yourself is that important?
Is a smaller fold more suitable for your needs?
Maybe look at the BabyZen Yoyo2 with connectors or the easy, compact fold of the Baby Jogger range of side by side prams.
What is your budget?
Budget is also a massive consideration. The Roma Gemini is only £349 and each carry cot is £100 so even if you are having twins the complete double pram with 2 carrycots and 2 rain covers is only £549.
How long would you need a double for?
If your older child is near walking age would you be better to go for a pram like the Cosatto Wow XL or the iCandy Orange that has a built in toddler board.
Do you need an all-terrain double pram?
If you have a dog, enjoy walking in the woods or live in an area with gravel paths, you may want to consider a 3 wheel double pram like the Bugaboo Donkey.
What size is your car boot?
Don’t forget with 2 children you will also have more than just the pram in your boot. Leave room for your children’s belongings and of course your shopping!
