Earth Day, an annual global event embraced by millions, serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard our planet. It’s a momentous occasion dedicated to raising awareness and spurring action to address the myriad environmental challenges confronting us today. Moreover, it’s an opportunity to honour and applaud those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the preservation of our precious Earth.

Embarking on a Sustainable Journey with Baby Birds

As we marked Baby Birds’ 28th anniversary in February 2021, we found ourselves reflecting on a year of profound change, particularly amidst the backdrop of the pandemic. With the youngest member of our Baby Birds family turning 1, we felt an intensified resolve to forge a brighter future for her and all the little ones out there. That’s why we proudly joined forces with Ecologi to embark on our sustainability journey.

Through our partnership with Ecologi, we’ve established our very own company forest, diligently offsetting all carbon emissions generated by our team’s personal and professional activities through tree planting initiatives. Witnessing our forest flourish month by month has been immensely gratifying. As we celebrated our 30th birthday milestone in 2023, we achieved our goal of planting 3000 trees—an accomplishment that fills us with immense pride. We are now proud to say with the help of Ecologi, we have now planted over 3700 trees in our company forest. And as we look to the future, we eagerly anticipate the continued growth of our forest with the invaluable support of Ecologi. You can track the progress of our company forest here.

Pioneering Sustainable Practices

Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our products to our day-to-day operations. Embracing a paperless office environment, we’ve transitioned all our files online, minimizing our reliance on paper. Additionally, we prioritize waste reduction at every turn, reusing and recycling all packaging materials. By consolidating shipments and minimizing packaging, we strive to maximize efficiency while minimizing our ecological footprint.

Embracing Eco-Friendly Alternatives

One significant change we’ve implemented is the adoption of 100% organic bamboo toilet roll by Naked Sprout. Unlike conventional toilet paper derived from virgin wood pulp, Naked Sprout’s bamboo-based alternative boasts a significantly lower carbon footprint, with production emissions reduced by 65%. Not only does this choice align with our commitment to sustainability, but it also supports initiatives such as providing safe water to children in need through Naked Sprout’s partnership with ‘Just a Drop’.

Partnering with Ecologi for Lasting Impact

For over three years, Baby Birds has proudly partnered with Ecologi, a forward-thinking organization dedicated to funding impactful climate projects worldwide. From harnessing waste biogas for energy in Turkey to safeguarding the Matavén forest in Colombia, Ecologi supports a diverse array of projects aimed at combating climate change and fostering sustainable development. In addition to planting over 3700 trees in our company forest, we’re thrilled to have contributed to the prevention of  180.3 tCO2e through 37 verified carbon avoidance projects. By supporting these initiatives, we not only offset our unavoidable emissions but also contribute to vital climate solutions and support local communities around the globe.

Sustainable brands

Baby Birds proudly partners with many sustainable brands. Bugaboo’s innovative Bugaboo Fox incorporates materials made from recycled PET bottles, reducing plastic waste in oceans and landfills.

Roma Prams factories recycles all the water used in production. Sophisticated filtration systems ensure that the end result is water that flows freely into a nearby river. The factory focuses on reducing pollution in their area. Roma is well known for their wide range of dolls prams and travel systems, as well as their award winning Roma Atlas and Gemini prams.

Silver Cross have continued with their sustainability mission for many years. This is evident in their Silver Cross Reef. 35 bottles comprises Reef in the seat unit (including hood, chest pad and crotch pad, head support). Silver Cross will be continuing with this initiative throughout new launches.

A key brand leading the way in sustainability is Joolz. Leading the charge in pram sustainability, ands setting a remarkable example with their commitment to planting a tree for every pram sold. This initiative has given rise to their thriving “Birth Forest,” a testament to their dedication to offsetting their environmental impact.

Their ethos of sustainability extends throughout their entire operation. Joolz prams are crafted from sustainable, organic materials, including fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles and an Essential range fashioned from 100% organic cotton. Even their packaging is eco-conscious, designed for reuse and creativity—each cardboard box can be repurposed into something practical or whimsical.

Operating out of a sustainably renovated factory in Amsterdam, Joolz employs energy-neutral solutions like greenhouses to minimize their environmental footprint. This holistic approach, dubbed “Positive Design,” ensures that every aspect of their production aligns with their environmental values.

But it’s not just about the products—it’s about the impact. Every Joolz pram sold means another tree planted in one of their Birth Forests spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. These forests symbolize the collective effort towards a greener future, with each pushchair representing a tangible contribution to global reforestation.
